Today I got the subway along to Suwon station at 12 to meet Liz and Jess, we got the train through to Yongsan then a taxi to Hongdae, club and pub central by night! We had a good look through all the shops, found some pretty cool clothes shop so I'll def be back their for a good rummage! The girls were not long in noticing my shopping addiction and seemed to have got the name The Secret Shopper! hahah! Everytime they turned their backs I had bought something else haha! I think its because I don't always ask anyones opinion, I just go for it and buy it so they didnt know I had been thinkin bout buying anythin! Can't help it people with addictions try to hide their addictions hahaha! So after we had all collected a good few goodie bags we jumped on the subway again this time along to Insadong where there was going to be the Lantern Festival parade later at night. So we wasted a few hours in the RAIN around the korean craft shops and eventually came to the hundreds of stalls making lots of different things. So Liz had a bash at making a Fan so there was a lot of sticking and glueing goin on...lot's of fun! Such a bunch of big kids! Then I tried my hand at designing my own canvas bag! Due to time contraints (haha) I was limited to just a wee flower but im chuffed to bits with the final article! Alot of blood sweat tears went in to it with a grand contribution from the painting skills of Jess. We went for a wee hot choco before the parade in Starbucks....which by the way was one of 2 starbucks in the world that doesn't have Starbucks written in English! Photographic evidence provided! So as it hit 7pm we made our way to the main street where the parade was to take place. The amount of people was unbelievable, you could hardly move anywhere, but we struck lucky and found 3 unmanned chairs to stand on so we had a great view! Just as it was starting to get dark the drums started and up marched the first group of dancers with lantern. Reminded me of an extremely upscale Forth Gala! hahaha! Hip hip horray for the galaday!! hahah! Lot's of cheering, dancing and banter in the crowd. We were blown away by how many people participated in the parade, it went on for 2 hours and was so well choreographed and organised! Some of the lantern were pretty awesome, huge buddhas and dragons! Pictures didn't turn as great as I had hoped tho because it was so dark and with all the lights from the lanterns etc and they were actually walking really fast (some of the old birds -Ajumma's looked a bit nackered!!)
Afterwards we headed along to the end of the parade where there was a huge temple and the performers were leaving some of the smaller lanterns for people to take so we manged to score a few free lantern to take home as a wee token of the day! Bit of a nighmare getting them home on the subway right enough! The temple was pretty awesome, above you was just rows and rows of different coloured lanters!
