I eventually got my Geonggi Province training (GEPIK) on the 23rd June! Almost 3 months after arriving hahaha! It was a nice week off school and got to meet loads of other english teachers. There was 144 of us attending so I have been looking forward to it!! On the monday morning I got a taxi along to Migeum station where we were getting picked up for the bus to take us to the hotel and conference centre. Once I got to the bus I immediately recognised a few people from the ASK Now scavenger hunt so that was a nice surpise- it was nice to see Kathleen, Lucy, Joseph and Gerard again! When we got to the hotel it was around 10:30 so we had to que to find out our room number etc- I was the 1st from my room so it was nerve racking sittin in the room waiting to find out who my room mates were gonna be! We definetely had one of the nicest rooms- we had a balcony and amazing view, whereas Kathleen and others only had 1 small window! Eventually my room mates arrived, Dana from Canada and Jennifer from U.S, both very nice! Phew! Lunch was at 12 so we all headed down for some grub- although it was the typical korean lunch of rice, kimchi, fish, and fishy soup! eeek! Opening ceremony was at 1pm, the organisers all inroduced themselves etc then there were performances by korean traditional dancers and singers. Then we had our lectures until 5pm- felt like being back at uni! Dinner was----yup you guessed it, fish, kimchi and rice!!!! By the 3rd day I couldnt even look at rice but luckily they served a few of my favourite chicken and beef dishes some nights. Breakfast was a no go area for me as it was rice kimchi and fish AGAIN!!! They eat rice and kimchi with every meal! YUK!
One night we decided to head into town and had a Pizza Hut yummyyyy!!!! Ofcourse the night took is to the nearest Noraebang (Karaoke rooms) for some soju, beer and singing!!! Which became the place to go for the rest of the week! The owner was fantastic and kept giving us extra time. On the thursday we had an outing to Hwaseong Fortress but I have been there already and so had Kathleen so they let us have a wander around the shopping area called Namoon which is like an open market. Wasn't fun in the heat tho since it was 32 degrees that day!
On the thursday night we had a guy show us some Korean folk dancing and some korean folk chants which was soooo much fun! The guy was a trooper and we had a lot of fun with him. He had us all in 2 huge circles and would show us the dance moves then if he spotted someone who looked daft doing it he would drag them in the middle and get them to dance with him. Luckily I wasn't one of them!!! Was loving gettin ma groove on korean styleeeee!
