Our last day skiing today to complete the Big 5
Mt Hutt - tick
Cardrona - tick
Treble cone - tick
Coronet peak - tick
Last one today The Remarkables - tick
Gravel road all the way to the top - 13km from the main road. Not much fun riding the mud ruts when you are the passenger looking down a sheer drop ! Luckily I was trying to take photos most of the time so didn't look down.
More spectacular views as you drive to the top. Bla bla bla .. we are getting quite blase about good views now, but I am sure that we'll miss them when we return to Chiswick !
The Remarkables is like a little Val Thorens - ie lots of rocks ! Lots of terrain parks - so Tane was pretty happy. Definitely a big boarders resort and kids under 10 ski for free !
We experienced all possible snow conditions in the space of 1 day. From bright sunlight to snow showers and also flat light. Some nice firm runs, but also some slush down the bottom. The highlight must have been skiing down the black run the Waterfall - not sure how we didn't fall into the river. Most people thought we were mad bringing two little ones down it - but they loved it !
Skied til the last lift and then headed down to watch a magnificent pink sunset fall across the jagged Remarkables.
Head back to Auckland tomorrow
Bye bye skiing for a few months ...
