Left Wanaka this morning for a ski up on Coronet Peak.
The only ski resort so far that has a road that is tar sealed all the way to the top. And probably the shortest journey too. The recent $$ millions invested have created a large base with a pretty efficient ski rental , lockers and loos etc. On a Monday morning all was pretty quiet although judging by the smelly sock aroma, they whizz a lot of people through this place.
The views from the top are quite incredible overlooking Lake Wakatipu, Queenstown and Arrowtown. As they say pretty Awesome ! Unfortunately the snow didn't live up to much ... or maybe we've just been spoilt recently !
Often known as Concrete Peak we learnt why ! Hard pack ice and then slush - nice ! 3 lifts to choose from with plenty of ski runs down. Quite a big area by kiwi standards. The highlight must have been seeing the guys ski down and hopeing that they have built up enough speed to clear the growing pond at the bottom.
We skied til last lifts again .. and then after a shower and change into town for a visit to the Historic restaurant " the Cow " - a little cow shed with a roaring fire. Much gemutlichkeit !
Just need to find some babysitters to really enjoy Queenstown. Missing our nanny big time ! Skiing is not wearing these 2 out enough !
