On Thursday we left the National Park and headed to Wellington, arriving mid-afternoon. On the way to the hostel we climbed Mt Victoria which has amazing views over the city (see photo) and got a taste of the famous 'windy welly' weather. The next morning Katy and I got a little red cable car to the botanic gardens and walked back through them to the city. We stopped off at the Beehive and Government Buildings for some photos and then headed to Cuba St for some lunch, and then for a flat-white!! In the evening we headed into town and watched a live New Zealand band over a few drinks. This morning we went to Zealandia which is the world's only urban ecosanctuary and home to the spotted kiwi. Unfortunately as kiwis are nocturnal we didn't actually see any but the sanctuary was beautiful and we had a great morning nonetheless. In the afternoon we went to Te Papa - New Zealand's national museum and saw a colossal squid and 'admired' some original New Zealand artwork.
