This weekend in Rotorua was probably my best weekend yet (I know I say this every week) and we managed to pack lots in to a short space of time. On Friday Katy and I hired mountain bikes and cycled to Whakarewarewa Forest which has one of the oldest mountain bike networks in the country. On the way there we encountered a typhoon and got absolutley soaked so decided to dump the bikes and went for a 3 hour walk through the forest which was really nice. In the afternoon we cycled around the town and checked out some hot springs which are everywhere! Later that evening the others girls from our hospital arrived and we all went to Polynesian Spa which is apparently one of the best spas in the world and overlooks Lake Rotorua. On Saturday Katy and I went to Hells Gate for a mud bath which was really weird but relaxing (until the cold shower at the end). In the afternoon all six of us got a gondala to the top of Mount Ngongotaha for a luge ride. We got absolutely soaked and I managed to crash my luge but apart from that it was really fun! In the evening we all went to the Tamaki Maori Village for a bit of culture and a hangi feast. Sunday was another early start and Katy and I went to Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland. We got soaked again but I got some amazing photos and saw some really cool things such as mud pools, a 20m high geyser (which I decided not to run through this time) and really colourful lakes.
This week in hospital is going to be really busy as I have a medication audit and presentation to complete by the end of the week. I'm really looking foward to starting travelling now. Next stop Taupo!
