26/3
We arrived at Mar Del Plata and look scepticly for the hotel we have booked for 2 nights, Hotel Corona (like the beer). At around $50ARS each it's cheaper than dorm rooms. We inspect the holes in the place but we are pleasantly surprised, it's still early. We head out to find a lunch special where the waiters are....... Very social. Even with very few customers they are constantly busy but mostly talking to people. The funniest part is we could see what we wanted. The menus made it close to us twice while he held them, hugged and kissed people coming in and seating them, occasionally stopping to play with kids. Later the glass each of wine that was included with our meal (at best a cooking grade wine) was defiantly aired. It sat on numerous tables, slowly making it closer as he served and kissed everyone in the place. I'm not sure but I think we was the only people not to get kissed. Nice meal and a bit of a laugh... I'd go back just to see if we got the same comedy service.
Later we seperated and visited a few other sights, Sarah saw a market, the cathedral and some shops. We both saw the beach, but we are spoilt in Australia with beach quality. I caught the Argentina v Bolivia 1-1 draw in the world cup qualifier, not the best game which made the locals not happy, they usually play better!!
After tasting 2 more varieties of the Quilmers range, there is 1 Quilmers beer remaining in the taste test. It's between $15-35ARS (3-7$) per litre and a few taste like it.
Its time to explain the room a little more, 1 thing stands out, the shower.
The shower is the most interesting part of this room. To set the scene, the small bathroom has a toilet and bidet on one wall with the shower head at height in between them, and the sink and door on the other side. Naturally you are unable to change the angle of the shower head, targeting the wooden door. First step is to remove everything from the room, toilet paper, paper bin, toiletries bag (this is also where the only power point in the room is located) and try close the door. The door is warped from water and doesn't close so the carpet now also gets wet in the process. After around 3-5 minutes (literally), the water gets hot, meanwhile every part of the room is wet and you are standing shivering and freezing. After the shower you pick up the supplied towel (not a travel towel) to dry. It was nice until I put my thumb through the material. After the first 10 seconds I got use to the ripping sound..... I like to think I'm just that strong now, haha.
27/3 finally time for a sleep-in (or lay-in for the English) and a slower start to the day. Spent half a day watching tv, the first time we have seen it for a long time. We even had cable with 3 or 4 Chanel's in English. We saw over the course of 2 days a couple of movies, criminal tv shows and the NBA, bulls v heat (but we won't say anymore about that game). We were able to make some time in our busy schedule to buy bus tickets, lunch (which was also dinner) and 1 liter of chocolate milk (it was cheeper and I felt the student in me and dad over my shoulder saying you can't buy less for more, just drink it). We did feel a little full after the whole liter. Then back home to relax. After so long on the move, you stop and the body doesn't want to get up. We decided not to see flamingoes or sea lions, we could have but there was so much nothing on the cards.
We both made some amazing comments due to being so tired. Sarah was on fire, "toes are good because they are so far away" and thinking siesta time had begun after putting the sunglasses on.
I had a couple but I think most were tired 'dad jokes', and not much more fun than that.
