We are on tour in Christchurch. The walk along the river is lovely and we see a guy struggling to punt- we think we will do that later. we walk throughh town and after brunch find the information centre- we are going to go on the gondola up the mountain. The ticket includes a 2 day tram pass- brill.
We are told its best to get the shuttle to the gondola and 10 dollars each will include an interesting commentary on the way. The lady bus driver says not a word until we are returning when she announces some information about a new zealand bird- she describes it- it can't fly etc and she says here we get to the place were the bird is on your right-Oh, she says. 'The bird's flown away!'- well (she corrects herself) the bird must have walked off- its gone! And thats it! end of commentary. I could see myself in the rear mirror so I try really hard not to laugh- I have to stick my head down behind the seat.
Back to the ride up the mountain on the Gondola. For people who get vertically challenged it was a sinch after the ski lift' The views just got better and better. In fact we were lucky not to miss the bus back and that spectaculer commentary- we nearly went for a walk.
On return to the city we are too tired for the planned trip to the gallery, the tram and the River punt so we go back to our lovely apartment for a rest
