It was a great day to be a Rotarian.
The day started later than usual- finally. A chance to sleep in or take a walk.
Our first step of the day was a bus trip to the acquarium to pick up the buses and fire truck, and then it was off to the Fire Station.
We arrived at the fire station and were greeted by the Bombaros in parade formation. We were welcomed to the fire station by the firefighters. Each of the clubs received a plaque from the Fire Department. Every Rotarian recieved a Bombaro T Shirt and the ladies recieved sea shell necklaces. The Firefighters are very proud of their station, which serves as mechanical shop during the day when the fire trucks and ambulance are moved outside. The firefighters are fully volunteer and have to pay $10.00 to fund the purchase of fuel and maintenance. The firefighters provided a slide presentation of the operation of the fire department.
The Rotarian group left the fire station and Bob, Murray and Pat stayed behind at the fire station. It was an opportunity to learn more about the fire department and then we provided training on the operation of the pump. This eventually led to a water fight.
The rest of the group went to the acquarium for lunch while Shiela and Vic went to look at Paulinas Pumper.
After lunch the group went to Rotary Park on the seafront for the donation of the small bus to the Food Bank. The food bank feeds 10,000 people in the Mazatlan area. The bus will be used to transport food and to pick up food from the hotels etc.
The group then went to a school which has a handicapped class in the afternoon. The 60 students have physical and mental disabilities. The bus will be used to pick the students up and bring them home. Harm had 40 of them in the 20 passenger bus for trip around the block. There were more than a few wet eyes.
Then back to the hotel for siesta. Out for supper at Casa Country. We had dancing waiters, singers and dancers for entertainment while eating big steaks etc. Paulinas mother came for supper and it was nice to see her.
