Today we started at 7:30 with a quick bus ride to the Rotary Meeting at Pepisans Club. It was an opportunity to meet fellow Rotarians and take part in a Rotary meeting that was much different from our own. We were welcomed by the Mazatlan Rotary Club and each of the Alberta Clubs expressed our thanks to Mazatlan Rotary and to Allan, Pepisan and Harm. Paulina attended the meeting and acted as the interpretor. We then took the bus back to Las Flores to change and get ready for our trip into the country side. Paulina had to leave for Monterray since she had a class at 4:00 this afternoon.
Bob and Vic picked up the Edson bus and headed to the countryside. The rest of us were in another bus and soon arrived in El Quelite Sinaloa. To our surprise, a large celebration was awaiting us. We were given front row seats for several dance groups and singers. It is hard to explain how overwhelming this was was for many of us who have never had this type of experience. We were thanked by the mayor and other officials. But the high light was the dancing. Take the time to view the video and the pictures. After the celebration we looked at the displays of the various schools which will be using the bus. One of the schools presented each of the Edson club with a gift- which was again overwhelming.
We then went for lunch at a fantastic open air restaurant = Restaurante ElMeson d Los Laureanos. The owner told us all the recipes have come three generations and his grandmother. It was great- even after the parrot attack.
We then walked around the village for a short time.
We made the presentation of the bus to the Director of the School Board. The Board had to demonstrate the need for the bus and the capability to manage, administer, operate and maintain the bus on a long term basis. The bus will be utilized by 13 schools who currently have to rent buses from the outside for special trips only. This bus will open up a new world for the children. The Director expressed his appreciation to the Rotary Club of Edson for their efforts. We do have pictures of the presentation....however have download compatability issues....we will try later.
Back on the bus and returned to Mazatlan. The buses were going to be cleaned up and Victor was off to get the tires on the fire truck changed.
Tonight, the Mazatlan Rotary is hosting a supper across the street at Ed Tomatoes. Tomorrow is a parade through the city of the vehicles and then to City hall for the presentation of the units.
