Our first day in Barcelona was a busy one. We probably tried to fit too much in. Slept in a little late this morning so we got off a little later today. I did get a run in down to the beach. A lot of the old timers hit the beach early and some of those old timers don't like to wear a lot of clothes. It made for an interesting run. We finally got going and started at the harbor. Lots of cool boats. We got to tour a replica of a Spanish galleon, which the kids liked as they both recently read a book about pirates. We then walked up Las Ramblas, the main pedestrian street in the city. According to Rick Steves, one is more likely to get pickpocketed on Las Ramblas than any other place in Europe (we didn't). It was a mass of people and very interesting. We stopped at La Boqueria Market about halfway down the street and it was the craziest market I have seen. It had meats, all sort of seafood (some of it was still alive!), and even candy. Ellie and Luke were like, well, kids in a candy store. It even had these great fruit juices for cheap. We all indulged in that. We finished Las Ramblas got groceries and headed back to the apartment. Finished the laundry and then went back out to tour the Gothic Quarter. It is the old part of the city that was originally enclosed in the city wall. It was a good walk with some interesting old buildings. Went back the apartment again, made some sandwiches, and headed off for an evening swim at the beach. The water was warm and the waves were big. It was a good way to end the day. Tomorrow we are heading north to meet up with my aunt and uncle in Figueres.
