Just a short stay in Barcelona this time, long enough to go back to Sagrada Familia for another look. As awe inspiring that it is, a lot of the atmosphere inside was lost due to the antics of the self absorbed selfie takers and amateur photo shoots that occupied every available space.
I had thought that rather than pound the pavements all afternoon, it would be nice to wander through a park and enjoy a bit of nature.
NOTE: For those of you who may remember an earlier blog where we found ourselves in a “nature park” in Croatia, this one in Barcelona was not one of those. 😂😂
Having walked in the hot afternoon sun for what felt like half way to Madrid, it was later revealed to me that the park Jean had selected was know for its spectacular fountain, ie., another photo op.
Imagine the reaction when we found that due to the long drought in Spain, the fountains had all been turned off. 😩
As the tour of the Sagrada Famili was conveniently planned to coincide with the afternoon siesta, it meant that there was plenty of time to check out the GEOX shoe shops afterwards. Countless shops and four pairs of shoes later, it was time to eat, and after 5 weeks of tangine, humus and tapas, it was a welcome relief to find a hot wok shop and a feed of stir fried beef, veg and rice.
The highlight was time spent at the Mercado de La Boqueria checking out the vast array of food on display. Having decided to have our last taste of Iberian ham, the best of which is Bellota, which comes from the black skin pigs fed on acorns. At 200€ a kilo, it is best eaten without accompaniments so that the unique taste can be appreciated.
So that was our whistle stop in Bacelona, now it’s back off again with our next stop Munich.
