The train trip down from Barcelona to Córdoba started off through almost barren limestone country, clearly well suited to the endless olive and grapes that seemed to stretch to the horizon. Gradually, as we moved further south, the moist Mediterranean air gave way to more fertile agricultural lands, still dominated by olives and grapes, but now there fields of wheat and canola, and seemingly in no time at all we were arriving in Córdoba.
With Jean's choice of hotel once again being in prime position we were able to explore this fascinating part of town with relative ease, particularly once the sea of plastic sunflowers, umbrellas, flags on telescopic sticks and ping pong bats got back on board the tourist busses and moved on to whatever their next photo opportunity happened to be.
While the gardens of the Mesquite provided a welcomed oasis from the sun, inside was just as relaxing. Parks full of citrus trees and palms interspersed the narrow streets, and plazas, big and small around every corner.
So after three very restful days, we are off again, to Granada and another new experience.
