My Birthday- 23 today!!!!
Decided to celebrate by going on a 3 day sailing adventure around the Whitsunday Islands. Our boat 'The Southern Cross' was one a challenger in the American Cup and held 14 people plus 2 crew. We set off early, around 830am. Everything was going fine until Gavin was late for the bus and wen he finally got there he had forgotten Ben and his cans of beer!!! Oh well, at least I had my drink, they needed a good detox!!!!
We set sail around 930am with our skipper Adam and Cat our chef/ crew member!!! Started raining slightly but soon brightened up. The racing boat was really fast and once the sails were up we sailed on a 45 degree angle,it was mad! All the things in the cabin fell to one side of the boat and it was really hard to walk around. We sailed past some beautiful islands and stopped to snorkelafter lunch. As its stinger season we all had to wear black stinger suits- full length lycra- sexy!!! Saw loads of great fish, the water was beautiful. That night we watched sunset from the boat and the boys managed to talk me into giving them some of my vodka.
Next day started off grey and cloudy but we ate brekkie thru the rain and once it stopped we got the speedboat over to Whitehaven beach. This beach is gorgeous. The sand is the whitest and finest in the world- it got EVERYWHERE! We sunbathed on the beach and everyone got dressed in the sexy suits and played volley ball in the crystal clear water. We then sailed to Tongue Island where we did a bush walk up to a lookout point over the whole of the Whitsundays. From here we could see everything, we could even see lots of stingrays in the water below as the sea was so clear. After lunch we set sail again to our sleeping place for the night. It was really fun as around another 10 boats had stopped in the same place and we were all having conversations across the water to different boats. By this time our group had split into 2 groups and our group had a funny drunken night with most of them fallng asleep on deck. Me and ben had the nicest bed on the boat so we slept there. I got woken up in the middle of the night as we had left the hatch open and it started to rain, got soaked but left it open as it was quite refreshing.
The next morning was fab, weather was great and we went to 2 fantastic snorkelling sights. We saw dolphins jumping along the side of the boat and loads of sea turtles kept surfacing near the boat. The fish were amazing and I saw 2 huge fish about 1metre long by a metre high with big heads swimming past me, it was great. Saw a few jellyfish so I quickly swam the other way. Sophie the dutch girl got stung on the neck but she was ok.
All in all we had an amazing 3 days and the company couldnt have been better. Got some fantastic pics so make sure you take a look .........
