Started the morning with a bagel with cream cheese then to The Cathedral Church of St John the Divine 9.00am service. This is the largest cathedral in the world!
Morning tea in a Hungarian Cafe on West 110th Upper Manhattan, then it was another two subway journeys to that other great religious institution "Yankee Stadium" to see the New York Yankees take on the Toronto Blue Jays.
It was a close game all afternoon with the Blue Jays getting the first home run. It was even throughout before at the top of the 9th the Blue Jays scored to make it 5 runs to the Yankees 4. The home side just couldn't get the extra run to take the game into extra innings. It was a very enjoyable afternoon's entertainment. Both the US and Canadian anthems were played to begin with. Then between pitches and innings there is constant music, singing, dancing - you should see Joanne doing YMCA! Patriotic songs such as the Star-Spangled Banner and God Bless America, and humorous songs like Cotton Eyed Joe and Take Me Out to the Ball Game - "where we will root, root, root for the home team, and if they don't win it is a shame" - which they didn't- and it is! Fantastic crowd interaction and wonderful entertainment.
A very enjoyable afternoon experience in New York/The Bronx.
We hadn't planned on anything this evening, but a spur of the moment decision saw us get late tickets to see "Chicago". Yes we have seen it before, but this is a reworked production with minimalist settings and props, the orchestra is on stage and the actors movie and interact within the orchestra. The songs are just as fantastic; the singing is superb and the dancing is very energetic. We had 4th row seats off to the side, but once again it was great to see the facial expressions of the cast. It is a vibrant show and we thoroughly enjoyed it.
I have now just finished packing for our first move - Niagara Falls in Canada tomorrow night. We leave NYC at 7.00am, so it's off to sleep for now.
Oh, New York; you have been wonderful.
