Walking across the Brooklyn Bridge is another rite of passage for visitors to New York - apparently. It is a long walk, very crowded with pedestrians and cyclists. A great view looking back to Manhattan sky scrapers, the Statue of Liberty and ahead to the borough of Brooklyn. It was a long walk, but we were heading to Juniors Diner in Brooklyn, famous for its cheesecakes and other delectables.
Juniors has been around since 1937 and is an institution in New York. Picture a diner that you have seen in the movies - original 1960s tables, chairs and furnishings. New Yorkers like their meat rolls with many slices of meat. So I ordered a half roast beef roll - about 6 slices of roast beef! We had pickles, beet and corn bread as extras (free)!, bottomless coffee if you want. I ordered a Caesar salad to go with mine and also got fries and a soda with it. Joanne had a similar 1/2 turkey roll. I ate all of mine!! Next it was the cheesecake - divine. I just had the Juniors original and Joanne had the chocolate ripple cheesecake. It was a very "fulfilling" experience. Did I say that the cheesecake was divine?
Rebecca and Liz directed us on to the right train and we were soon back into Manhattan.
Now, I turn to the Broadway show. We had 2nd row centre seats for the Lion King at the Miskhoff Theatre. Brilliant seats, with the facial expressions - in your face, in a brilliant way. The opening scene is the best I have seen - with the animals joining the stage from all around the theatre and the patrons. The Circle of Life was so moving that it brought tears to my eyes and I did not want this song to stop. The puppetry is brilliant the acting superb and the music and songs were so well performed. Setting, costumes and story all breathtaking. Here comes my statement - for shear impact in my opinion this show rates as the best that I have seen. There was a standing ovation for the cast and I didn't want it to finish. A truly wonderful nights entertainment.
