We left New York just after 7am and went rough the Lincoln Tunnel under the Hudson River to New Jersey on our way to Niagara Falls. I thought we would travel all the way through New York State, however the short cut takes us through the states of New Jersey and Pennsylvania before again crossing back in to New York State near Horseheads - an ill fated expedition by settlers from the north who were travelling in support of the War of Independence and became trapped in the valley during the harsh winter. To survive they ate their horses and in Native American tradition they cut of the heads of the dead animals to release their spirits.
We had a $13 buffet lunch here before moving on to Valley Glen State Park for a walk down the gorge. It was raining and with Joanne in here new rain jacket, we had an enjoyable stroll down the gorge.
On to Niagara Falls.
