Sydney: Monday sunny
Saigon: Monday overcast with sun.
Got to sleep this morning about 12:30am. Then was up at 4:30am to catch a plane.
Ben and Jenny got up too, to see me
off. While mum and dad yawned their way to the airport, with me behind the wheel. I was struggling to keep my pea sized bladder under control most off the way there, damn coffee! and had to run to the toot, once we arrived at our Maccas meeting point.
Kim and her folks arrived the same time which was good. We all got to sit down and talk over breakfast and coffee.
Then the time came to say goodbye. We drove to the drop off point and had to make it quick, let's just say it was busy and not emotional at all.... BYE!!!
We Wizzed through checkin and customs, got the GST back on the Nikon. had some more coffee but I got a steak & mushroom pie for my last taste of OZ I'm going to miss it.
NOTE what's the go with most people that we saw today carrying extraordinary amounts of carry on luggage? Noticed a min of two bags per person some people had four bags WTF! That could be the reason customs & boarding takes so long sometimes. PHUCKERS
Today was not so bad at those stages. It was the flight that was the killer! Even with our direct flight! Seats were rock hard & no TV. The food and beer were good, so not all bad I suppose.
The descent over Saigon was fantastic. The delta truly looks amazing from above. The way it snakes across the land from the ocean and right through the city.
BAM! Aircraft doors open instant heat, glorious heat! Should hopefully drop a few KG's with our 32 days here and 32degree heat.
Got our bags and headed outside to where this time there was a sign with my name on it and a nice lad named Tori who took Kim and I to our hotel, and not a mob, that fought each other for our fair.
WOW this place hasn't changed a bit if anything its even more mental! We saw babies with no helmets being carried on scooters, side saddled ladies on the back of scooters, everything we remember the traffic to be. So funny to see. That rhymes.
We checked into the empress hotel different feel about this part of town but still part of district one, so close to everything still, seems a bit more lively. Which is fine.
The Hotel is very nice plenty of timber decking it out, and the staff seem friendly. Basically dropped the bags in our room 507 and headed out for some beer and pho rice noodle soup yummy!
And lt was yummy, we walked around the block to get a feel for the area after dinner. Hopefully the first meal won't make Kim or I sick, only tomorrow will tell.
Got some plans for tomorrow so I'm off to bed.
