Fraser island is f***ing amazing! I had a wicked time because i managed to go with all my Oz Experience mates so we were all used to one another by the time we were camping and having group peeing sessions! I don't know how i would have coped if i was with randoms tho. We had to fight with the guy who organised the trip to allow 11 of us to go in the one vehicle tho because it was a bit cramped but in the end we won. He was right tho, there was no space to move especially after we had been for our shopping list! We made it to Fraser Island where the weather was beautiful even tho we had been told it was supposed to be a thunder storm. Just as well they get it wrong sometimes!
We did the self drive tour but you can also do the guided tour where you stay in a resort. The resorts looked nice but if you want the real experience then do the self drive. Fortunately for everyone else i did not attempt to drive the 4WD vehicle, It was top heavy and we went over some massive hills and bumps so if i'd been driving we may have had to pay the excess for vehicle damage! We arrived early in the afternoon and started consuming goon right away and playing drinking games whilst the vehicle was moving which proved quite interesting! We got out at our first destination and attempted lunch but because everyone was pissed we ended up cramming bread and crisps down our throats and then playing footie and frisbee. Love being a kid! However, the goon made me cause myself an injury whilst playing footie. I went in for a tackle and hit the deck right on my leg which was agony. I could hardly move it and it swelled up straight away. In the end we got to our camping spot and i just had to lay with my leg up for ages and i couldn't help set up the tents which is just as well really cos i had no clue what to do! It took 3 days for the pain to die down and now my leg is totally bruised (as i type this its been 5 days since my injury so u can appreciate how sore it was at the time and i was under the influence, imagine how painful it would have been if i hadn't...but then again i might not have injured myself if i was sober...hmm) Anyway, we picked a good star gazing spot for our camping. It got dark pretty much straight away after we set up camp. We had a lovely dinner consisting of steaks, sausages and burgers YUM! The cooking was good the whole time we were there. Obviously i did none of it or we would have been poisoned :S We then sat around under our rain covers playing chinese whispers and listening to one of the guy's ipods. Was much fun. The stars were out in force and some people seen some shooting ones but i never :-(
We also went to Lake Wabby which is lovely. Its a bit of a trek to get there and me being so unfit was knackered by the time we got there but it was really nice. Its surrounded by a big sand dune and the water is drinkable as its a freshwater lake. It was nice and warm too. Many of the people there were goin to the top of the dune and running down and diving into the water which was fun to watch especially when they fell halfway down! We then set up camp in a dingo roaming area and again all the group except me seen a dingo. I'm gutted. We then had a big 10 minute debate thinking that a dingo was staring at us until the boys finally approached it to discover that it was a bush. Idiots! More goon consumption and ipod blaring at night and then most of us had an early night. Those who stayed up late tho were approached by 3 dingoes...the girls ran screaming into their tent lol So in the end none of us abided by the guidelines for dingoes. Oh well. We also discovered in the morning that we had shared a tent with a spider. Its just as well i never knew this before i went to sleep! On our last day we seen a huge python like snake lyin in the middle of the road which the boys moved with a stick. It was either that or we drove over it. We seen a huge lizard/iguana style thing just hanging around the toilets in one of the resorts and we seen some dolphins when we were on the barge coming back to Hervey Bay.
We went to Lake McKenzie before we headed back to the barge and that was the most beautiful thing i've seen since i've been in Oz. That's what the pic is for this blog. It was so blue and nice but if you've seen many lakes then i suppose this one won't be much different. Overall i highly recommend Fraser Island. Its difficult to stay sleeping past 6.30am tho due to the heat!
