Hey Everyone! I'm so sorry it has taken me so long to write these final blogs. My schedule has been crazy since we came home The end of school went well. It was hard saying goodbye to our classmates and teachers that we had become such good friends with. We will have some close friendships from our school for many years to come. Most of them we know we will never see again till heaven. But that's the best part of saying goodbye when you know you will see them again in Heaven! It was still very bittersweet. We learned a lot of spanish in Costa Rica but we also learned a lot of other things. We grew closer together as a couple, we learned about a different culture, what missionaries have to go through to rearrange their lives when they move, what it's like to feel completely lost and alone when you can't communicate, how to rely on the Lord more, and how to cook some yummy Costa Rican food:) We are so grateful for our time spent in Costa Rica and the people that helped us get there and return for a second trimester.
So, on to the graduating part! Patrick's mom, Helen, came down for a visit for our last week in Costa Rica. Luckily she arrived early on Monday because our graduation ceremony was moved from Wednesday morning to Tuesday afternoon because unexpectedly the city announced it was shutting off the electricity in our area on Wednesday to work on things. That's how they roll in Costa Rica! Always be prepared for anything! Pura Vida! That's a phrase they use there a lot that we really got to understand. It means the pure life and when they say it, it just means, life is great and wonderful. It also kind of means just go with the flow! Anyway, so Helen came Monday and Tuesday we had graduation. The ceremony started with us walking by groups depending on what country we were going to for missionary work. The graduates from each group carried the flag of that country. Our group was the United States just because we don't have a country selected yet for missionary work and that is the country we would be returning to. So, we all entered, and sadly for Helen, the whole ceremony was in Spanish. If you ask her, she will tell you the ceremony was nice but she didn't understand a word of it:) The teachers spoke a little, they gave us our diplomas and certificates, a girl from the school who was graduating spoke, and then a preacher spoke. It was a very simple and nice way to end our time there. Afterward there were refreshments and lots of pictures with friends.
The next day our class, the 12 or so from our grammar class, had a little goodbye breakfast at Denny's with some teachers. This made all the goodbyes a little easier. Yet again, we enjoyed our time in Costa Rica very much and are so grateful for it. We learned a lot of Spanish and we have conversations pretty well for the most part. Can't believe we finally graduated!
