Thanksgiving went pretty well for us here. We did have to go to school for a few hours in the morning though. That was a first for both of us. After school though a lot of students got together in the gym and we had a thanksgiving lunch. We didn't have turkey though, we had chicken. Turkey down here is about $4.50 lb and hard to find. The lunch was great though. We had chicken, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and lots of sides and desserts. It was a good time to get together with other Americans and enjoy the holiday. We also invited the staff from the institute and children's academy. It was nice to teach them about one of our traditions. It was different not sharing the day with family but we had a good time.
Now, Christmas is right around the corner! The day before thanksgiving we actually had some Christmas festivities. The school held a Christmas party for an organization here in San Jose called Roblealto. They have a large home outside of the city and many daycares inside the city. The home is for orphans or children whose parents cannot support them at the moment. This organization is an inspiration, they are so great with the children and families they serve. Anyway, many children from the home came to our school for a Christmas party. We had about 135 children in the gym. The children first saw a Christmas play that the children in our academy put on. Then, the Roblealto kids went around in groups to different stations we set up with different activities. I, Kate, was at the face painting station. It was lots of fun painting Christmas trees, candy canes, or other pictures on their faces or arms. After this, the children ate. Then it was pinata time! They were so excited! At the end, all the children received presents. All of us families at the institute picked a child or children to sponsor for Christmas and buy a gift for. It was great to see them all open their maybe only gifts for Christmas. They were so excited and thankful! It was a great night!
Now, we are in our last week of school. We just finished present tense and are now working on learning how to speak in past tense. That will be the majority of our next trimester. We are so excited to go home for Christmas though that it is hard to focus this week. Next Tuesday, the 13th we will be on a plane back to WV! We will stay mainly in WV on our break but we will visit PA for a few days. Then, January 6th we will return for our second trimester! The Lord is so good!
