Hey all! We are 5 weeks into our second trimester and we are learning a lot! We worked a lot on past tense and then moved on to future tense and some other themes. We have been learning a lot in language about the latin culture and Costa Rica. Every week I have to talk to a few different Tica women about the new theme of the week. We have talked about religion, pets, home remedies, weddings, and this week will be funerals. Coming in to this trimester I was still so nervous to speak spanish with people. I feel like it is getting a little easier now though. We both feel like we are getting to the point where if we don't know what the words are we can explain it pretty well. This makes conversation a lot easier. We both have two hours of language in the morning where all we do is speak spanish. Then, I have two hours of grammar. Patrick goes home when I have grammar and Monday, Wednesday, and Friday he has an hour of tutoring for Grammar. He decided to switch out of the class because it was so large, he enjoys smaller classes better and since there were none, he decided to go with tutoring instead.
This trimester Patrick has been doing a lot of hiking around the La Cruz area. This is the mountain with the three crosses on the border of the city. He met a Tico one weekend who is in a hiking club who has invited him today to hike a large mountain next to La Cruz. He is enjoying the new sights and practice with spanish!
Patrick also bought a bike that he is fixing up. He will love being able to explore the city more on his bike.
We also have really been enjoying our new apartment! We love going to the market every week and buying fresh fruits and vegetables. Every week we have something new and different to make. Patrick has also been making his own tomato sauce for spaghetti. It is so good! Tomatos right now are six pounds for $2! Can't beat that! besides, the Tico version of tomato sauce isn't very good, it has a ton of oil and not much tomato.
This trimester has had some stress for me though so that's something you can be praying for. I have a lot more homework and responsibility this trimester. I am the trip director at school so I plan all the trips we take to the beach, parks, volcanoes, and nicaragua. This is a lot of work and responsibility so just be praying that I can manage my time well, and get things done. Thank you all for your support of us here in Costa Rica!
