Took a "slight" (100 miles) detour around Clear Lake which is the largest lake in California as we discovered while we were driving around it! Riverside B&B check in was strictly between 3 - 5pm and we were only half way around the lake at 4pm so it was pedal to the metal to avoid the wrath of Larry!
B&B was lovely however and Larry wasn't nearly as scary as his teeth suggested... As the name said the B&B was on the riverside and was a idealic setting. We headed out to dinner at The Depot (pronounced deeeeepo) and had Ryan the worlds most tragic and nervous waiter be our "server" for the evening.
Breakfast in the morning was served "family" style meaning we all had to sit down at the brekkie table and listen to Larry's Life 101 (after being presented with the souffle like it was out last meal before going to war)
Drove up to a salmon hatchery which was very impressive as there was a man-made fish ladder there and we watched the salmon attempting to swim upstream and jump up the mini-waterfalls... it was more funny watching the poor things get swept back over the waterfalls and having to attempt the jump all over again (evil laugh)
Bald rock was recommended by Larry but he neglected to point out how far away the rocks were but in the end it was worth the journey and we stood upon rocks that have scared the bee-jebus out of native indians for years. The silence up there was amazing, not a sound to be heard except a few rumbling stomachs... i think it was the souffle.
Our next destination was Quincy which was on the other side of the Feather River Canyon, another destination recommended by my Uncle and a great one at that!! It was a stunning cliff side drive through fantastic fall folliage, babbling creeks and bear shaped rocks!
