We're doing well. Em & Jon left for Venice yesterday, after spending 4 days with us. Lots of fun! We've been doing plenty of Florence stuff, like eating pasta and gelato, drinking Chianti, and visiting museums and other beautiful sights. Amazingly, I don't feel like I've gained weight -- even with pasta or pizza on a daily basis. It's probably because we've been doing a ton of walking and the portions are much smaller and more sensible. I'm more concerned about wearing out the soles of my Merrell's before the trip is over!
Now we're ready to venture out of the city on a few day trips by train. Should be an adventure. The train system is amazing -- really a major form of transportation for many people. So it's efficient and reasonably priced. We rented a car for a few days while Julie and Eileen were with us. While we saw beautiful countryside that we couldn't have gotten to by train, we were happy to get rid of the car so that we didn't have to deal with crazy drivers and virtually no parking near our apartment. We ended up parking the car each night back at the car rental place -- about 1.5 miles from our apartment. Our apartment (which is great) is in the pedestrian only portion of Florence, so you can only drive or park there if you are a permanent resident.
Tomorrow we visit Fiesole and Thursday in Lucca or Ravenna. May even travel to Venice for a day -- only 2.5 hours on the high speed train!

PS--Running into some technical problems uploading pictures from my camera. We will try to work this out.

Colleen Kochmnan Don't miss Ravenna! Lucca is lovely too but Ravenna's mosaics are a once in a life time experience. I never gain weight in Florence either-too much walking! Colleen
Marti Katz It is so much fun reliving our trip to Italy through your blog. Neither of us gained a pound, although we ate everything in sight and enjoyed many glasses of wine at each meal. I can't wait for your next episode.
Marina Love reading about your adventures! Enjoy the rest of your trip
