We were sad to see Emily and Jon leave yesterday afternoon--no more family until we get home. They were with us for 4 days of visiting, shopping, eating and drinking. I especially enjoyed the morning Jon and I climbed the hills behind our apartment to reach San Miniato al Monte and got panoramic views of the city.
Our days now are alternating between sun and rain with temps in the mid 50s. So great to have so many days at our disposal. When it rains we just take the 5 minute walk to the Pitti Palace to explore one of the museums it contains using the pass we bought for many of Florence's sights. When it's clear we go further afield, exploring the hills around the city.
Have I mentioned the food? We are conducting an experiment to determine whether one can ever tire of Italian pasta. Early indications: no chance. Each variation of sauce, whether red or white, seems to make the dish new. And the gelato...we are finding new shops to try every day, still not settling on a favorite place or flavor. Just last night our landlord, Rocco, told us about the 2 best gelatorias--neither of which we had discovered yet.
