So glad to be back online in our "home away from home". We found ourselves greatly disabled without the internet in our apartment over the past 4 days. My lesson learned is to print out more of our travel arrangements and info than I had. Had to do all our communications with family in internet cafes, which usually were smokey and noisy at the time we could talk (10pm or later our time here). We have found that Face Time has worked great, so we've enjoyed talking with Julie and Emily fairly regularly.
It's also been great to catch up on emails and your blog comments. Phil entered a "catch up" blog last night.
Ravenna was amazing. We LOVED the mosaics, the sights, and the city in general. Spent a glorious sunny day there on Thurday, taking the regional train from Florence (2.5 hrs of interesting scenery). We couldn't get over the beauty of the mosaic depictions and had plenty of time to visit all the places. We also had a very nice lunch at Ca' de' Ven, where I had a prawns and asparagus salad, since I've been longing for fish, along with their local unleavened bread (piadina).
Spring is beginning to show its face in Italy. Trees have begun to flower, and wildflowers and daffodils are blooming in the parks. Its great to see. Along with the flowers and opening buds, the temperatures are getting warmer. We're still going most places with raincoats over another warm layer. But I haven't used my gloves in over a week!
Just one more week in Florence and then we head to Cinque Terra and southern France. We still have many things we'd like to do before we leave Florence -- even after being here for 3 weeks. Many of our current activities are now day trips from Florence. There are so many wonderful places to visit!
