We've been at a Dept of Conservation campsite with no facilities on the Queen Charlotte Drive in beautiful Marlborough Sounds - hence no blog entries. Thanks for all your comments, even if half of you were just talking among yourselves!
Sadly, we didn't get to whale-watch, we stayed nearly 2 days, but the seas were too rough and all the trips were cancelled, boo hoo! Instead we had a fantastic walk on the Kaikoura peninsula in absolutely tremendous winds! The sun never shone for a second all day but I (J) still got quite sunburnt on face and head, and M on her ear and nose! Cant believe how different the sun is here, even if wasnt out.
Our stay on Marlborough sounds has been amazing. Hot sunny weather, unbelievable scenery, turquoise seas, the whole thing really. We were quite disappointed to leave the campsite this morning, but more delights to see! We've spent an hour or two doing 'housework' ie emptying the tanks and filling the water at the 'DUMP STATION', stocking up with food. The disadvantage of the DoC sites is theres no power to plug into, so the fridge has stopped being a fridge and is now a warm cupboard, and no charging of phones, Palm etc. I'm right down on the Palm, so I cant use it, just hoping nothing fatal happens until i can charge it again.
BERNIES BLOG
I'm having a wonderful time, Mummy Barbara. I watched out for whales at kaikoura but couldnt find any, I've been swimming in the Pacific Ocean (my life ring worked a treat), and I've had a close encounter with a weka - anyone know what that is - I certainly do now!!
Mary: Hope all's well at home and school! Bri - you'd be proud of me using strange loos on DOC campsites - ok if you're the first to get there in the morning before the sun's got on it! Rob - I got a super photo of the mussels!
We're going to try putting photos on now, but if we can't do it we'll try again at Angie's at the weekend> Keep forgetting her wedding is why we've come here!! xxx

Bobsie Good to hear from you all again......I was beginning to wonder if you'd been eaten by the whales!.....such a shame you couldn't get to see them, but lots of other nice things to do and see instead!......including the interesting loos Mary!!! Glad all's well and that Bernie is enjoying it too!! Take care......and don't forget about Angie's wedding on Saturday!! xx
Geraldine Hi John! you sound as if you're all having a great time. I've only just managed to dig my car out of the snow! No more English winters for me I'm off to the sun next year! What a pity you didn't get to see the whales, maybe you'll have another chance later on. Have fun! Geraldine x
Paul Thanks for the update! Thought you'd been abducted by aliens in Kaikoura! Did the humans go swiming in the Pacific with Bernie? Can't wait to see some pics, but don't worry if technology isn't co-operating! Sounds like you're having a great time anyway, love Paul & Ros xx
