Arrived in Berchtesgaden today just before noon. We immediately set out to find ourselves accommodations for the next two nights. After looking at a few subpar hotel rooms kitty corner to the train station, we walked further and found a cute little bed and breakfast, affordably priced, and run by the nicest German lady, Frau Brandner. Great success!
After grabbing a quick snack from the local supermarket, we took the bus to Konigsee (King's Lake). Very beautiful lake, much like Maligne Lake near Jasper... We took the boat to both stops. The first stop was St Bartolomo's, a church halfway down the lake, just past the Watzmann, an impressively tall mountain peak.
The second stop, Salet, has a hiking trail leading to a smaller lake, Obersee, with Germany's tallest waterfall not far beyond that. We hiked around the end of Obersee, but didn't have time to hike up to the waterfall, as we had to be back in time to catch the last boat. Absolutely beautiful scenery, and the weather to match. Love being in the Bavarian Alps, reminds us a lot of home.
