Christmas abroad, very strange indeed. Nice strange but still strange.
Whilst I didn't miss the panic buying, loading my food trolley up to the brim and fighting the crowds in tesco! I did miss the buzz and the excitement, the Christmas tunes and the turkey! Of course I missed the family too!
I did however enjoy just lazing around in the sun! Spending some quality time with my baby and just relaxing!
Let's start with Christmas Eve, Violet laid out her stocking in the bed and we chatted about Santa coming tonight and then we went into Palolem which is a few beaches down, busier but still really nice. We ate at a place called olives which didn't look like much but they served great food.
We bartered them down on a lobster and I had this cooked in their special sauce which was with wine, cream and cheese. D had a mutton vindaloo and we shared a side of cheese and olive naan. The meal was amazing and the bread was so good I told the chef so as I walked passed and he invited me in to make one with him! Following instruction I patted the little round of dough and then tried to spin it to flatten it and then came the point when I had to put it in the tandoor and stick it to the side of the oven!!! which was so hot that I passed on this bit! I have no idea how these guys stick their whole arm in this furnace!
Anyhow I wasn't very good so will leave this job to the professionals, I will also never be able to enjoy a naan at home ever again as they really just can't compare to the ones out here.
After a little haggle in the local stalls we bought a few bits and head off home, Violet was asleep safe in the knowledge that she's a good girl and Santa will surely come!
Christmas morning and her stocking is full! Bubbles, a paper aeroplane and a wind up monkey, some plastic animals and some chocolate coins and chocolate tortoises in their very own box! Poor things didn't last long, basically swallowed whole.
After breakfast and a walk along the beach we bump into the friends from Muswell hill and go to their villa for a beer, Agonda villas are amazing! Huge with a bar and a jacuzzi with their own sun beds outside with a bathroom bigger then our entire beach hut! Lovely!
Home, chill with a game of scrabble and a packet of fortnum and masons chocolate mince pies that have travelled thousands of miles to be with us today- slightly squashed but edible. Soooo, scrabble! I win, obviously! Especially starting the game with a seven letter smashed that out the park beauty "weather" After triple checking that, yes D you really do get an extra 50 points for using all your seven letters, he tried to remain cheery but you can see he was fighting it! Violet wakes up and kills the game- d was secretly delighted and then we start getting ready for dinner! Violet and d bought beautiful Indian outfits to wear in the silk emporium in Mapusa- they both look amazing! Last minute.com me? I have asked a local seamstress to make me a sari, I only asked her yesterday so I am hopeful it's ready as promised! And it is! Three women dress me in metres of beautiful fabric, it looks great even if it is belly revealing! Breath in and think thin! At least there hasn't been any quality street to indulge in!....Wait!...Damn those mince pies!
D looks pretty handsome in his silk embroided outfit and grumpy v looks like a princess but on this rare occasion she won't do much posing! After many compliments we have a BBQ on the beach, a fish platter of masala kingfish, prawns, red snapper and calamari. A bottle of sparkling wine, we lit some sky lanterns and then drank a boat load of strawberry daquiris when the Muswell hill gang popped over to say hi.
Violet was asleep by dinner time, I felt bad that it wasn't as Christmassy as it should have been for her but she had a nice day, she loves it here in Goa and I realised that this is the longest time I have spent with her since I finished maternity leave when she was 9 months old!
Time goes by so fast, I really want to try and make sure we enjoy life and not just muddle on through the rat race! Goa so far has been great for us all, d and I haven't killed each other, infact we are getting on well- the old charmer even bought me a diamond ring for Christmas!
Don't all go rush out and buy your hats in the post Christmas sales though! It's more a declaration of love than a proposal!
Merry Christmas all, we've missed you and look forward to seeing you all for some festive fun when we get back! X
