Baga beach- this was a 30-40 minute journey from our hotel and whilst I knew we wouldn't want to stay here for more than an evening as renowned for being very busy, we definitely wanted to visit!
The cab was 700 (so £7) and the driver chatted on his phone most of the way whilst driving regularly on the wrong side of the road. I'd be interested (once we leave India) to find out the death rate on the roads.... It's got to be unbelievably high.
Anyhow, baga beach.... Indeed very busy with lots of tourists from all over the world, including India.
The beach had lots of shacks and lots of hustling going on. We also noticed a few broken glass bottles in the sand which was quite worrying since there were so many bare feet around!
I wonder who's job it is to clear this up and what kind of person leaves this s*** on the beach?
From a few minutes of being on the beach Violet turned into a little celebrity, a random Indian guy came up close to us and started taking Violets photos, just started snapping away!
Then a different guy comes up to me and says can I take a selfie with your baby? I said yes and Violet seemed fine and then he called all his little friends over who all surrounded Violet which was a bit much for her... And she looked scared so I picked her up quickly.
After a few more requests Violet quickly got into it and was happy to pose with these people- they pinched her cheeks and one guy even blessed himself afterwards!
A woman came up and asked if Violet and I would be in a selfie with her and her husband... And then their friends came over. D got an invite too but was shy... Apparently we are a beautiful family!
We sat on some sun loungers and watched the sunset with a beer.
We gradually made our way down baga beach, I love an explore but D less so.... Dragging a buggy across sand can be a tad tricky!
Violet wants to walk, then be carried, then run up to every stray dog and cow.
As chief carrier I get covered in sand and tears and dribble and snot- it's a great combo and my limited outfits get trashed within about two minutes. Not great since we are getting "papped" a lot! Haha
Violet however loves it, every day and every thing is exciting for her, she is very inquisitive and is in awe of everything. It's amazing to watch even if a tad annoying at times as I chase around after her.
We find a beautiful looking shack full of brightly coloured tents and lights- bottle bay shack.
We sit in one and order a couple of cocktails and a chicken fried rice for Violet. Our child is such a good eater.
We order Violet a mocktail and she is very happy eating drinking and looking at the lights.
There are so many children in this shack, maybe a party. They play tug of war on the sand and Violet happily watches. They also have illuminous colourful bands that they are throwing around.
We walk on a bit more to a lively shack with Indian party music and people dancing around. We decide to stop and join in the fun! Violet is dancing and jumping and generally being centre of attention on the dance floor. Out come the cameras and people trying to hold her and get their children to cuddle her, high five her, dance with her etc...
I caught some pervey guy filming me sneakily and the second time I caught him i thought enough is enough let's move on from this place. I had also just seen the toilet and it was so gross that I felt a bit ill and no longer wanted to drink anything from this place!
No where to wash your hands no toilet roll and it stank so bad. The shacks here have been ok up to this one... Gross.
What was quite eye opening though was that when I was in a queue for the toilet I said to a local girl who was about 12 or so- is there just one toilet? And sighed as I was dancing around in the queue waiting my turn. She said in a sweet way "yes only one but that is better than none"
That's a glass half full kinda girl.
I wondered what places she is used to usually... It sounds as if a toilet was a treat.
I came out and anti backed myself and violets hands and cheeks.... And carried on walking to another shack. This time a quieter one!
We played with a couple of cute puppies along the way, dragging the pushchair and at times Violet along to the next place! This time it was quite chilled but with some nice tunes. We sat on a candle lit table on the beach and ordered a pina colada and a Long Island ice tea and a plate of crispy vegetables. The plate of food was big and cost around £2 or just under... Spicy crispy tasty... What was meant as a bar snack turned into dinner! Amazing.
There were people lighting giant lanterns on the beach and setting them out to sea- beautiful to watch them against the pitch black night and listening to the sea. I thought of my old friend Kerry who has just passed away, born the same year as me... I'm sorry I wasn't there for her funeral but I have certainly been thinking about her from afar. God bless.
After a few more drinks D put my name down to sing a bit of karaoke- Dolly Parton! Obviously! We then had a family sing song of club Tropicana with D leading the way and Violet on backing vocals.... Poor audience.
Homeward bound....but after ten minutes of driving I realised I left my phone in the bar! An extra 400rupees on the taxi bill but thankfully my phone was still there. D wasn't particularly happy about having to turn around but after an hour we were home in bed and absolutely shattered.
