Arambol- we finally made it!
Yesterday we went to arambol which was about £4 in a cab. We're getting used to the crazy driving- most people get about on moped, several to a moped, huge bags on board, riding side saddle, riding with tiny babies in slings across the mums chest, riding with dogs... Pretty unbelievable but very much the norm.
Arambol was lovely, a proper hippie town, shops offering henna and Ayurvedic therapies, shops doing dreadlocks (we both debated having ours done) we just walked and walked and walked- my legs ache today! We walked in the surf rolling the buggy through it, Violet loves it and doesn't want to get in her buggy very much. She will run off towards the sea, dogs and naked men doing yoga... At one stage mid walk she grabbed her book from the pushchair and plonked herself down on the sand to read. She's hilarious. There are packs of dogs running around enjoying the sea, we saw a cow chilling and having a sunbathe, v was delighted by this! She's been asking to see a cow since before we came! Now she's asking to see lions I'm just hoping we don't find one of those on the beach.
We finally walked as far as mandrem and then sat down for a drink, Violet is obsessed with beer and swipes ours as any opportunity. We had two large kingfisher beers, a Sprite, chips, a foot and head massage and all for the sum of around £6.
We walked all the way back down to where we started, with Violet having her photos taken on many occasions by random locals, beggars with children and people selling sarongs and men with long sticks trying to p****d in the ear- certified ear cleaners apparently and then we sat and shared a chicken Karachi which is some sort of green chicken with chips and salad, v had an ice cream and we had a couple of non alcoholic drinks. All for less than a fiver. The chicken was £2.40!
They were playing some dance/trance type music, people just chilling, hot but slightly hazy...it was kinda surreal just sitting there imagining London and how different life is! The contrast is amazing.
