Hello everyone!!
Can't believe it's been so long since I last updated this!
This week has been very very busy. On Tuesday I went to Jaén to a meeting for language assistants. It was an informative meeting, although some of it was a bit unneccesary to say the least. We had semi-lectures all day and I got to meet lots of language assistants from other parts of the province. We then had a meal together consisting of the Godfather of Spanish food: paella!! It was the first time I'd had paella and it tastes really good!!
Wednesday was my first full day of school and my first conversation classes. They were hard work but good fun and I enjoyed all of them. After school I went to Maria del Carmen's house for coffee and to meet her husband and daughter who I will, from now on, be tutoring privately. It was great to spend so much time speaking Spanish. Even though I'm in Spain I don't speak that much Spanish unless I'm at school.
On Thursday I gave my first private class. It was good fun and although all parties involved were nervous, I think it went well. My students could speak much better English than I had been told so I had to improvise a little but otherwise it was a good lesson. Of course, it was Thursday so it was latin dance class time!! This week we moved on from Salsa to start the Bachatta, a very different dance to Salsa but fun none the less. We (me and the other language assistants who go to the dance class) have made friends with some of the people who go and they invited us out after class so we went for a few drinks with them.
On Friday, I was up early to go to Jaén to get my documentation sorted. I went earlier than my appointment was and I was seen very quickly by Spanish standards (I was in and out within an hour). After that I went to a meeting at Jaén university about Spanish classes they were giving there. Unfortunately, the classes run too late in the evening for me to go but it was great to see the university itself. By the time I returned on Friday evening I was shattered so had myself an early night J
Saturday was Feria de Jaén day!! At 6 o'clock in the evening we set off to Jaén to meet some of the other assistants there. We went to Kirsty's for drinks and food first and then made our way to the Feria. It was like the Úbeda Feria but much much bigger, and the rides were safer (no Feris wheel lol!). We stayed out late (as the Spanish do) and had a great evening dancing and drinking the night away. Sunday was spent coming home and sleeping!!
Monday was a bank holiday here and the temperature got up to 30 degrees!! Not a cloud in the sky all day! Me, Sarah and Rachel went for a walk in the afternoon to a park nearby where we sat and read our magazines/books. It was lovely. In the evening we went for Chinese. Chinese was an experience! Sarah's sweet and sour prawns came with fruit cocktail in it!!
I have also found Blue Dragon Cantonese Sauce in the Corte Ingles!! I'm very happy with that although still haven't found any curry sauces/powders.
I've been at work today and this evening I will be going to dance class as usual which should be fun! This weekend we might be going to a bull fight which will be great fun!
Until next time... x
