Barcelona
Barcelona was incredible! There’s no other way to say it. It’s a beautiful city and the people there are great too. We set off from Linares at around 12.30am on Saturday 27th March and we didn’t arrive in Barcelona until 9am. It was a very long train journey and I would suggest flying there, it’s much quicker and easier. Once we arrived we headed to the hostel, had breakfast and went for a little walk. After dropping our stuff in the rooms, we went on the Tourist Bus of Barcelona. It sounds really cheesy but it’s a great way to see all the main attractions if your pushed for time. We spent Saturday on the tourist bus and Saturday afternoon we went for a walk down Las Ramblas and went to a café called Bosque de las Adas. It’s a beautiful café which looks like a forest on the inside, even the tables look like they’ve just been plucked out of a rainforest and every so often they turn all the lights out and play a soundtrack of rainfall – it really is worth a visit. It’s situated next door to the wax museum. Saturday night we went to an Indian restaurant, which was really nice and went to meet some friends. Sunday morning was spent going round the Sagrada Familia which was incredible. I’d never seen a church like it. They’ve been building it for over a hundred years and it’s still not finished!! (They hope to finish in 2020 – I’m not so sure!) It’s an incredible building; you can clearly see Gaudi’s influence on the new part and his presence in the old part of the building which was constructed while he was still alive. On the outside you can see lizards, birds and frogs all sharing space with the Biblical scenes. After the Sagrada Familia we went to the Gothic Quarter in the heart of the city, just next to Las Ramblas. The Gothic Quarter was pretty and had some lovely architecture. Monday we went to Park Guell and to Montjuic. Both are amazing places to visit and both have incredible views of the city. The best view of Barcelona has to be from Montjuic. Tuesday was a very relaxed day, the morning was spent preparing the suitcases for the trip to England the next day and in the afternoon we went to the Port to see the sea. It was beautiful. There were lots of ships in the harbour and we had dinner in a restaurant by the side of the dock. The sea and the lighting on the dock made it look incredible once night fell. An amazing trip that I would definitely repeat!!
