Segovia!!
We made it to Segovia today for the second day of day trips from Madrid. After catching the train to the Chamartin station in Madrid we caught another train on to Segovia, all in all around 40 mins travelling to get there. Once in Segovia we had to catch a bus to the Aqueduct.
The Aqueduct was really nice, it´s a very big wall. I´ll put the pictures up as soon as I can. Near the Aquduct there was a sunday market selling ceramics and decorations for houses. It was a great market and I´d love to return again (the market is all day sunday).
Once we saw the Aqueduct we headed to the Alcazar which is the castle that inspired the Walt Disney castle. It´s very beautiful and the views from it are amazing. We did a tour around the Alcazar and then went up the Torre de Juan II, a spiral staircase of 152 steps!! It was hardwork but the view from the top is incredible and definately worth the effort.
When heading back from the Alcazar we saw the cathedral which is a really impressive building, and opposite is a big square where the Cochinillo is very good. We ate cochinillo as we had been advised to. Cochinillo is roasted piglet cut up using plates. It was very very tasty and I would definately have it again.
After lunch we had a leisurely walk back to the bus station where we caught a taxi to the train station.
When we got back to Madrid we headed to the Plaza Mayor where there´s a christmas fair going on. The amount of people there is incredible, you can hardly move for people. And for some reason lots of people were wearing really odd wigs, no idea why. After a quick look around we´ve headed back to the hostel. We´re all shattered and there´s still a full day and a half of touring left. We´re heading on to Avila tomorrow to see what we can see there. Hopefully an early-ish night tonight!!
