While we were on the coach, I'd planned to meet Rhys on Wednesday and go to the Blue Mountains. I'd told him that the weather was menna be rubbish so we decided to meet anyway and then decide what to do from there. So true to my word, despite the bloody rain, I met him at Central Station at 8am. We'd already paid for our travel passes to cover us for the Blue Mountains so we thought we'd go anyway, just in case the weather got better. Stephan came with us and the three of us got on a train to Katoomba. It was a 2 hour train ride and a depressing one at that as it was so miserable outside. But we persevered. We managed to get a bit of a deal on the hop on hop off bus pass, but in hindsight that's because they knew we'd only manage to hop on and hop off about once! Well, we went round the bus route, still raining, got off at Katoomba Falls and couldn't see a bloody thing. So we waited under shelter till the next bus came which only went as far as the next stop. So we had some lunch there and tried to dry out whilst waiting for the next bus. The next stop was the Three Sisters, and possibly the funniest. I had my picture taken here for comedy value, but it's something I won't forget! We were laughing so hard as you literally couldn't see over the barrier, never mind anything in the distance. We were so cold and wet by this point we had to laugh or we'd cry. We waited in the gift shop till the bus came and then headed back to Katoomba. The train ride home was supplemented by a double chocolate muffin and a hot chocolate but they made no difference whatsoever! The air conditioning made us colder and I was actually glad to get back to the hostel. At least I can say I've been to the Blue Mountains, it's just a minor detail that I couldn't see them.
I'd arranged to catch up with an old friend I worked with years ago who moved to Sydney 8 years ago. He met me at my hostel and we headed to the Arthouse Hotel Bar on Pitt Street. We had a good catch up and then Alan and Fiona met us for drinks and some food. We actually all had a good laugh and Peter did his best to sell Sydney to me as a potential place of residence. He did a pretty good job too but it wasn't too hard to be fair. After a while Peter went home, Alan went out on the piss in Kings Cross on his own and Fiona and I went back to our respective places of rest. Only 2 more sleeps left in this awesome place.....
