Fort Langley was today's destination, so after a breakfast of waffles with blueberries we set off.
Fort Langley was the first non native settlement in British Columbia. As we entered, Molly picked up a kids explorer workbook to fill in on the way around. Soon after we had arrived a freight train went passed with at least 130 wagons attached.
Molly and I climbed the stairs to look over the wall towards the Frasier River, answering questions on trading Salmon and what do you think you would be able to smell when it was a working fort.
We then made our way to the trading hut looking at items that were traded like furs, cranberries, materials and buttons, to mention a few. After watching a demonstration on barrel making we stopped for coffee.
In the main house we tried on clothes, Bill couldn't wait, and thought about what jobs people would do. Molly wasn't happy about washing and cleaning. We then went to see the animals. The pigs were friendly, as I put my hand through to stroke one, he ran over, pushed against the fence and rolled over from me to scratch his belly.
We had a go at panning for gold and then Bill and Edna volunteered to be a bride and groom for a fur trade wedding. I then questioned why I had married into Tracy's family!! After that we soon left with Molly receiving a certificate and key ring for completing the workbook.
We stopped in Langley for lunch and then left Bill and Ed to have a look around the shops. There was a great hat shop but really pricey. Then we found a malt shop for shakes. Molly put a quarter in the jukebox for some Elvis. We met back at the car and traveled back to Abbotsford.
Later Bill took us to a couple of stores and then after dinner taught Molly about family history.
