We had a really good day today
When we got up we checked our emails, I had one saying I had a message from Jimmy Johnson on facebook! I had no idea who it was and figured it was someone just bulk messaging trying to sell something. Nick was teasing about this Jimmy bloke being some secret lover so to shut him up I had a look at the message - it was actually someone who has found Nick's wallet!! As the bank card had my name on it they have obviously been able to find me instead of Nick. We couldn't believe it, it had been a week now so figured it was gone for good. All the message said was
"Isabel, I have found your wallet, please call me on . . . . . so we can arrange to get it posted back to you or a way for you to pick it up"
We gave him a call straight away, his name was actually Chris, he said he made the facebook profile so that we could contact us. He knew we were travellers as our student travel cards were in the wallet and he said he knew that any young traveller would be on facebook! We went through what was in the wallet, everything was still in there apart from the cash (which we had pretty much expected). Chris explained that there was some fish and chip paper left in the gutter outside his house so he picked it up to put it in the bin when we found the wallet wrapped up inside all the rubbish! Very random! We said we would go there to collect the wallet to save putting them out any further, he said the best thing for us to do was to phone his wife to see when she would be in today. We have cancelled the cards that are still in there but have figured it is still worth going to get it as it has our travel student cards and of the course the actual wallet itself which Nick only bought for himself in Thailand!
We went to the post office to collect our parcel - it was battered up!! When we got back to the apartment we delved in opening all of the Christmas cards that were in there first. We'd asked Mum to send us some extra tops and shorts etc so was good to get those too. There was a stocking for each of us in there too but we are keeping them for Christmas day. There was also 2 crackers and some christmas bows which we have added as decorations to our christmas cactus! Was so nice getting bits from home
We rung Francine, Chris' wife and got their address - we looked it up online and there are in Kensington, just over 7km from where we are! We really don't have the money to spend on a taxi just to go pick up the wallet so we decided to walk there!! It was cooler today so figured we'd be Ok! We used Nick's I-touch map thingi and made it there no problem at all, was quite a trek though and I wasn't appreciating all the hills we kept coming across! It was like being on the set of Neighbours when we got there, the whole area looked like Ramsey St! Francine was lovely, we went in and had a drink with her and chatted for a while before starting our 7k walk back! Nick is so happy to have his wallet back, though it needs a wash as it's a bit greasy from the fish and chip packet it had been dumped in!
I was knackered by the time we got back so we had a chilled out evening in. Not long after we got back it poured with rain - we have never seen rain like it!! We got great views of the beack. Below our lounge window, on the steep slope down towards the beach, there is a big rockery and where the rain was pouring down the hill it was all funnelling in here and created a massive waterfall over the rocks and greenery, it was so beautiful.
Oh and I forgot to mention - Nick wore his Superman T-shirt again today and yet again it got us noticed! There is a small playground at the end of our road and when we started our walk to Kensington a very little boy saw us walk past and started shouting to all his friends "look there's Superman" and as we continued on he was saying to them all "I just saw Superman, I just saw Superman" it was so cute! The t-shirt never fails to get us noticed!
