Our mini bus wasn't leaving until midday so we had a lazy morning. The first stop on our tour was to Snorkle Bob's to hire snorkle gear before going to a supermarket to get any food supplies.
We then drove to Kaanapali beach - on the way Nick saw a whale squirt water whilst looking out into the sea! We also got great views of Haleakala Volcano!
When we got to the beach we all literally had to run to where the others from our hostel were hanging out as the sand was burning our feet!
Nick couldn't go in the sea as has a day or so left before his 2 weeks healing on the tattoo is up so he spent the afternoon sunbathing whilst I went out snorkling. The water was really cold and got very deep very quickly, the bottom was just purely sand.
The first bit of coral I came across was surrounded by a school of tropical fish. As I swam out closer to the large rock I saw more and more different fish, oh and some scuba divers below me which scared the life out of me!! The reef was beautiful, very different to the Great Barrier Reef.
When I was around the other side of the rock, further out in the ocean I could hear the whales singing underwater! The first time I heard it I thought I was hearing things but it continued. It was so beautiful and surprisingly loud, but I had to have my ears fully under the water to hear it. You know you can get CDs of whales singing, well is sounded just like that (funny enough) but I was hearing it with my own ears in their natural environment - it was amazing and something I'll never forget.
I made my way back to shore and sunbathed with Nick. From where we were sitting on the beach we could also see the uninhabited Hawaiian island, Molo Kai. As we were sitting looking out we could see whales breaching and also saw one flip its tail out and smack it back down into the water!
After the beach we stopped at a Buddist temple before returning our snorkle gear and heading into Lahaina where we spent a couple of hours looking around the town and watching the sunset and also saw the largest Banyan Tree in the world!!
When we got back to the hostel we managed to get onto tomorrows tour too before having some dinner and showers.
