We were up at 5am this morning as the coach for our Grand Canyon Tour was picking us up just before 6am! Once we'd paid and been given our pack lunch breakfasts we begun the 5 hour drive out to Arizona to the Canyon, getting to see the sun rising on Vegas as we left.
The first break on our way was at the Hoover Dam and Lake Mead, where we stopped for photos. We continued driving and we realised we were on the famous Route 66!! Where we also stopped for another break. Once back on the coach our driver put on a film to kill the remainder of the journey time. When we got to the gates of the National Park we stopped at a hotel for a buffet lunch before driving in and round to the first viewing area along the South Rim of the Grand Canyon - Bright Angel Lookout.
We got off the coach and walked to get the first sight of the canyon, when we first saw it we both stopped and just said "wow" ! It was such a beautiful sight and we could see all the different layers and colours. After photos from the higher point we made our way down the rock staris into/onto the grand canyon itself for more breathtaking views.
From here we went to Mathers Point - the widest part of the Canyon at 18 miles! The views from here, in our opinion, were even more incredible. All the layers and colours of the rock were more defined and you could even see channels through the base of the canyon floor. There were so many spots to go to in this area, you could even go right out onto the edge with no barrier there - great for photos but not nerves!!
From here we walked to the information center before getting on the coach for the 5 hour drive back to Vegas! When we stopped at Hoover Dam on our way back it was all lit up! We got back to our hotel at around 10pm. You have to walk through the casino to get to the towers where all the rooms are and the temptation was too much, we stopped and played on a slot machine before making our way up to bed!
