Neil's Round the World Trip!
We got up around 10 and listened to an English girl greet about how she'd had her camera stolen last night. Then me and Chris walked into town to meet Vanessa at the Plaza de Armas. We were a little late but she didn't mind. We went to a great gringo haunt called "Jacks" which does English breakfasts. The breakfast was great, you know the score eggs, bacon etc. However I couldn't help thinking a nice bit of square sausage and some tattie scones would have made it better.
We chatted to Vanessa about her farm, which is huge and is in a beautiful valley. She has indigenous workers who have to be constantly watched as they are very lazy (apparently). Her English is great as she spent some time in New York studying.
She drove us to a black market where we bought fake CDs, DVDs and some t-shirts. I bought Gotan Project (A great Argentinian group) and some Salsa music. I also bought March of the Penguins DVD (Ida, it's great despite what you say!). We strolled through the different stalls and then Vanessa drove us to Sacsayhuaman, an immense ruin outside Cusco. When you pronounce the name it sounds like "sexy woman". It's a magnificent three-tiered zigzag structure. The stones are outstanding! We climbed the nearby hill of Rodadero and then slid down weird polished rocks (I hurt my bum but it was fun!) We then walked into a very long dark cave that smelled of pi$$. We drove to the statue of Jesus Christ which towers over the city. We met Vanessa's sister and her Israeli boyfriend Aaron. We also spoke to some of her friends who were at the lookout and were pretty stoned it appeared.
We drove to San Blas and I bought an Incan wrist band from a street kid for 1 sol. We walked into a fabulous cafe called "Muse". I had a "Tango" coffee; coffee, chocolate liquor and baileys. It was really good. The cafe had a great ambience and some good music.
We then drove back to the centre of town and were stuck for a bit as Vanessa's pick-up truck was hard to navigate down the narrow streets. Me and Chris thanked Vanessa and her sister and then walked back to the hostel.
We had a Sunday roast put on by the hostel, it was great. We then watched some Argentinian football and went back to the hostel to crash as we were knackered!!
Sleeping like a baby by 10pm.....
