Neil's Round the World Trip!
I got woken up really early at 6am by Vanessa`s mum having an argument with one of her workers. I got up at 9 with the sun shining into my guest room. I had some breakfast with Vanessa and Chris. We tried to contact the hotel to tell my dad I would be back at the hotel later than 10am but the Peruvian Yellow Pages Vanessa had was 4 years out of date and the number had changed.
We could't get a lift to Cusco as Vanessa was going to a "baby shower". So me and Chris walked along the riverbank to the nearest town. It was a bad idea we got chased by crop guard dogs and the bank was like quick sand. I nearly lost my flip-flops in the muddy gloop. There was also horse or donkey sh$t everywhere. We finally reached a rocky path and reached the next town where we caught a bus to Pisac and then a taxi back to Cusco.
I was walking towards my hotel when I bumped into Aussie Craig from Santiago. We chatted and then I continued on to my hotel to check on my ailing father.
I got back to the hotel and he was lying on his bed with his fleece wrapped around him looking utterly miserable. I then went out and bought him soroche pills (for altitude sickness) plain bread, jam and water. He said he`d been sick last night and still had a pounding headache.
I went to the market and bought a baby (maybe) alpaca jumper, purification tablets, 2 rain ponchos and hiking shoes. I also went to the hairdressers and got my haircut. I had some banter with my hairdresser, she kept talking about the kilt. I went to an internet cafe and uploaded some pictures. Then me and dad walked to a nearby hotel for our Inca Trail briefing. Our guide called Miluska told us all the information we needed. She had really bad teeth (like the joke teeth you can buy) however she was quite funny in a weird way. Dad is still not feeling well and is even contemplating not doing it as everyone else in our group is under 25. We are given our duffle bags and then walk back to the hotel and pack them. Dad went for a sleep as he wasn`t feeling well. He`s so weak he can`t even keep up with my walking pace. I texted Chris who was in Jack`s restaurant. I walked down to see him. I left a note for my dad in the room. I had some red wine casserole. We walked to the Plaza de Armas and met Milu, Vanessa, Milly, her boyfriend and his brother. We went to an Irish bar called Paddy O`Flahertys. It was a nice pub inside but full of gringoes. I spoke to Milu in Spanish for most of the time. I did remarkably well and was able to coverse although now and again she would have to correct my grammar. Oh you can buy a t-shirt here that has "no gracias" written on it so street sellers can see you`re not interested in any of their crap products like plastic panpipes or finger puppets.
Milu says she has eyes like a witch (was anything lost in translation..who knows?) She spent 8 years in Torino, Italy doing archaeology. We drank Cusqueña for a while and then headed to Mamma Africa`s nightclub. I danced with Milu until 2am as I have my Inca trail tomorrow. Milu sometimes wears a "gorro" a hat like Bob Marley kind of..I think it`s great! The club was really hot and sweaty think drops of sweat falling from the ceiling! There were some good songs but mainly reggaeton and they love "Gasolina" here. I got a taxi back to my hotel and after waiting outside for a while on the night porter I was allowed in. I woke my dad up who was in an amazing mood..his headache, nausea etc had vanished. The pills must have worked! I went to sleep at 2.30am oh I have to get up in 2 hours 30 mins...excited Inca trail woo!!
