We wake early and grab our stuff for the trek. We get charting to a Swedish guy called marc, he walks around the Market with us while we get our trekking backpacks and other supplies.
We have lunch together with the whole group then start the trek. It's really hot and my pack is loads heavier than the others. Sweat is pouring off of everyone. The guide "jungle joe" is really funny and after a joke always says "oh my budda" and laughs with a really distintive laugh. All of a sudden Jordan snaps a strap off of his new bag, unlucky. We repair this as best we can but is could get worse as paul and marc both have this same pack.
We take a break at a river but within seconds disaster strikes when vicky, an Argentinian girl falls in. It's not deep so we all have a laugh about it. We take this opportunity to get to know the group. There are 2 vickies from Argentina, Jurek and martha from holland and caitlyn and her mum also from holland. Marc and our group complete the group.
After a couple of hours we stop at a walerfall for a swim, the water is so cold and refreshing but Jordan brings his camera in to get some good shots and it gets water damaged, the screen stops working but the camera still technically works. When we get changed back to our clothes gaz realises he had almost 2000 bath in his pocket. We bump into the young English guys we met the day before, there in the group ahead of us and are just moving on as we arrive.
We walk for another few hours but after mere minutes jordans other strap breaks. Emergency repairs are done and we continue until pauls first strap breaks. We continue until we reach camp, there's a wooden hut where the Thai farmers and their family sleep and a second for the group to share. There is also a shower but this is really only a tap and of course the obligatory squat toilet. No thanks.
We eat our evening meal and it's so tasty then sit around the camp fire. Jungle joe knocks up a bamboo bong and drops a little opium in. We all said that we would decline the offer accept for Paul who can't wait to give it a try. The bong is passed around and gaz and Jordan decline, as it passes my hands I can't let go, I'm torn as whether to give it a try. After a few seconds thought I make up my mind and go for it. It feels much like weed but faster acting, almost instant with it's effects. I only had a small amount but you can tell that you could really lose many years of your life to this stuff.
We all then sit around the table playing cards, it's difficult as there are many of us so vicky teaches us "chancho", this translates to pig in English. We play for a while and get to know everyone before bed, another day of trekking lies ahead tomorrow.
