We arrive in Chiangmai early in the morning, the trekking isn't till tomorrow so we decide to take it easy and get some much needed sleep. The bus ride from Bangkok was terrible. We sat at the back and thought we had the best seats on the bus, the chairs recline so far that you can almost lay flat and there's no-one behind ragging on your seat everytime they stand up. We soon realise that the buses main vents for the a/c are above our heads and cannot be diverted or switched off. It gets really cold and were all in shorts and vests. We pass a sign at around 3 am and it's 29 degrees outside and on the bus we feel almost frost bitten. Everytime the bus stops at services we race outside to get warmed up. It all seems so backwards.
Once at the hotel - BMP we are taken to our room, it's one large room and Paul shotguns the double bed, he used this as a line to impress a girl that evening "big bed for big guy" in a caveman Tongue. Classic. The room is so hot and has what can only be described as an aircraft propellor for a fan, it's so loud and strong but just recitculates the hot air in the room.
We head out to town for the first time and find a bar called "tiger kingdom in town" it's busy and the seats are outside, a good sign that the food is excellent. A Thai guy starts chatting to us and starts dropping some amazing accents, he knows were all of us are from. He used to live in England for a few years and makes us all laugh with his impressions, they're all brilliant.
We get chatting to an Irish girl called jade when she orders a curry that's far too hot. She joins us at the table and tells us about how she has lived in San francisco for around 8 years, that explians the American accent. As were chatting, she shows us her photos of the elephant trekking but Paul thinks she is taking a photo and starts to flex, amazing.
