With the 9 day metro strike that oh so nicely started before my family arrived and ended the day before they left, I thought making the picture for this entry a Metropolitain sign was fitting. Despite my family having to walk everywhere in Paris, (and by everywhere I mean everywhere. It got to the point where my mom didn't want to walk anymore..which is like a sin for her since she loves nothing more than to walk) we had a great time. Having them here helped me get over some homesickness I was feeling. Now I'm starting to realize that my time here is limited. Exactly three weeks and two days from today I will be home. So of course that just adds to the list of excuses I have for eating at least one crepe a day as well as trying new pastries. I'm currently munching on a baguette filled with chocolate chips. Not to mention the chocolate éclair I had a bite of yesterday…it was filled entirely with chocolate. Enough said. Anyway, the latest news with my host family occurred at dinner last night where they proceeded to tell me that the whitish, thick material in pieces of the veal we were eating were in fact not fat, but "gave the meat flavor." They called this non-fat substance "cartilage" like that was going to make me suddenly not find it gross and gobble it down. No such luck. It's considered rude to leave food on your plate here but I'm sorry, calling pieces of fat cartilage so I'll eat them doesn't work for me. Christmas lights on the Champs-Elysees are finally on! Whenever I see Christmas decorations it reminds me of being home and getting to see everyone again. Which makes me antsy because I cannot wait. But then I think about the people here that I won't see when I leave Paris, and how I won't get to look out my window everyday to make sure that the Eiffel tower is still there (three months have passed and I still get excited to see that it is still really there), and then I think about all the pastries that won't be eaten by me and that's just too much to handle. Needless to say, it's good I'm feeling this way. I love home and everything that includes but I've also loved being in Paris and am going to make the most of the three weeks I have left here.
