Just got back from Scotland and I loved it. I pretty much love the UK in general. I learned what Haggis is. And it's not a 3 legged animal even though I actually believed it was (I'm so gullible...) I even asked how it ran only having 3 legs. What it is is "bits and bobs" thrown together and cooked inside of a sheep's stomach..needless to say I did not try that traditional scottish dish. The sun sets at 3:30 in Scotland and people eat dinner around 4 or 5. It was quite a change from Paris where we dont eat until at least 8:30. I stayed in Glasgow and took a day trip to Edinburgh on Saturday which was great. There were a bunch of markets set up sellling Christmas things and lots of food. "Haggis neeps and tatties" was a common dish..although I didn't find out what neeps or tatties are. Fun to say, though. This older Scottish couple asked me and my friends if we were American because of our "good teeth". I've never been complimented on my teeth before. I saw my fare share of men in kilts! But refrained from asking them what they wear underneath. I also saw a few bagpipe players which was pretty sweet. But I would have to say the highlight of the weekend was getting to go in the cafe where J.K Rowling wrote the first Harry Potter..for those of you who don't know, I'm an hp fanatic to say the least. And to make the day even more magical, when we left the cafe it was snowing! I was sad I missed the first snow fall in Chicago so of course I was giddy like a little kid when I saw flakes. Plus we were with a girl from California who had never experienced snow before! So that added to the excitement. The accent was very nice to listen to, although some people sounded like they weren't even speaking english. The only Scottish phrase I learned was "I fea Scotlan' " which means I'm from Scotland. Which I'm not. But it was fun to imitate their accent. It was more fun to hear them imitate the American accent. A lot of "oh my god's" and "like" were used. That was my last trip before coming back to America. Ten days left in Paris..time has flown by. "Christmas is coming, the goose is getting fat..."
