I was in Normandy for the weekend on a trip my school offered. It was quite the experience. Best history lesson of my life. We went to Caen to the D-Day memorial museum. It was a great museum - not just pictures with paragraphs underneath to read. This one room was all dark except for some flickering candles. And when you walked through it, as you got near the walls, faces would appear - faces of people in concentration camps. It was very moving. Another room was dome shaped with a huge picture of Hitler in it with excerpts of him talking. The entire museum was very emotional. Then it was time to see this short film called Hope. So I thought it would lift my spirits a little. I was wrong. It basically went through every war America has ever been involved in. Pretty much the opposite of hope. Then the next day we went to the American cemetary where almost 10,000 American soldiers are buried which is right on Omaha beach. The beach was so peaceful and very quiet. It was very hard to imagine a war going on there. The strangest part was that this is really recent history but it seems so far away. I was lucky to get the chance to go there.
