yes yes, I will admit it, I made a wrong calculation so I have walked a lot, again! I left the tennis early today as I heard by coincidence that Fernando would be there only by tomorrow, so I thought, let's go to the beach! After all it was a bloody hot day in Sydney and I needed refreshment. So I had my dinner on the beach till it was too cold to stay longer. The bus usually needs 25 minutes to go there from my place, and in some moment I thought, let's walk back home! It was such a nice night, 24 degrees so now it's my time of the day to be active. I already felt very guilty that I was watching ppl sweat and work out in the sun today and I sat in the shade or did nothing. And to be honest, I just felt that I needed some exercise. Running on flip flops doesn't sound good to me, so walking was the only option... I needed more than two hours for the trip haha! oops, but I haven't walked one time wrong, apparently I am looking a lot out of the windows because with points I recognised from my bustrip, I walked back to the right neighbourhoor.
Now I am in my hostel again, resting my poor feet for tomorrow. ;)
Today was my first day of tennis here in Sydney and it's always great to be at a tournament where I haven't been before. It's just fun to discover where everything is located and how it works and even what food they sell. :P And I tell you, they have a lot, from sandwiches to a complete food court with international food. But the main goal was tennis of course, and since I wasn't sure if Fernando would be there, Feli was first priority to see.
It was already warm in the morning when I made my way to the Olympic parc where the tennis center is located. I love those venues, in my imagination I can feel the atmosphere of how it felt when the Olympics were held there in 2000. Now there were mostly tennisfans walking in the same direction. It's so funny how easy you can recognise tennisfans. Sometimes camera's out already, lots of times with sporty shoes and a cap hanging at their bags or on the head. And the older ones might carry a cushion to sit on to protect their poor butt and bones. haha. Anyway, I was lucky that I just needed a ground pass so I was in a small queue and could go fast through the security check.
Woohoo, what a feeling to enter it for the first time! A very little jump for joy then, so I don't have to do it in the middle of a big crowd. ;) It's the usual procedure, checking out courts if there's something interesting on them. I saw Blorn Phau and Guille Garcia Lopez for example and later Gilles Simon, Mica Llodra and many others, but still no Feli. One simple text made me sprint over to court 9 because at 12 was it time for a shirtless practice. Yes from Feliciano, so no way that the week could start baetter at the tennis ;)
We managed to take pics with him afterwards, so i have been scared for nothing. After this we had lunch and strolled around a little bit. We watched the Guille match, who had a a group of very fanatic fans on the other side of the court, and then moved to watch something of Joao Sousa against an Aussie guy. I didn't had the rest to stay for the whole match and also was getting badly burned, even with sunscreen on, so time for another stroll around the courts. You never know after all, and I hoped for Fernando of course....
Accidently I ended up on a court with doubles practice, from Jean Julien Rojer and his partner Qureshi. JJ was talking to some guys in dutch and I could listen a little bit as I heard the name Verdasco. I never realised they play the spanish team, but he said to them that Fernando would be here tomorrow, and also that it would be hard.... hehe. I just smiled in myself and took off, thanking JJ for the information. No need to stay longer as I didn't find anything interesting anymore. Qureshi gave me a big smile, and I smiled back with a smile just as big and off I was. It was only 4 pm, so plenty of time for other things. Like mailing a certain picture to Loretta and to enjoy some summer time on the beach.
That's how I ended up having a picknick dinner on the beach, never knew there is even wifi on Bondi, but there is. :))
I nearly escaped something else too I was sitting in a bar with sports on tv for one drink when this korean guy came up to me and started a conversation. You know, I like meeting ppl and talking to them, but this guy hardly spoke english! I didn't know what to do but the bartenders helped me out by saying they close at 12. Phewwwwww, saved by the bell. ;)
Right, I put some pics on the blog and then off to sleep,. Guess it will be a good sleep after that long walk, and the heat of the tennis. And you know? i am actually well prepared for tomorrow. Camera battery is ready, I have my ticket already so no queue tomorrow and even lunch and breakfast are in the bag. Ha, beat that. Probably the first time I am this much organised haha.
Can't wait for tomorrow guys, goodnight from Sydney now!
