Just like many others, I was dreaming today too. Maybe not of a white Christmas, with snow, but dreaming of a warm Christmas on the beach. With a Santa hat, and allright, of course swimwear too, but not much more than that. How different it was, this Christmas in Sydney.
When I had woken up, I already saw that this day was different compared to yesterday. The sky was cloudy and it was pretty cold, 22 degrees. LOL, imagine how fast you get used to nice weather. ;) So I wrote my New years cards and decided to post them at Bondi, because my destination would be Bondi beach for the pic with the Santa hat. Before I had even entered the bus to Bondi, it started raining. Luckily I did bring an umbrella, but it looked like this wouldn't be a day at the beach, lazy on my towel and unwrapping my present that my mother got me the day I left for my trip. Soon as I got off the bus, it even was thundering and the steady rain became worse. I did post my cards at Bondi but I didn't risk camera damage so a pic on the beach wasn't possible.
Disappointed and very wet I went back to the hostel, to get dry clothes and to warm up a bit. Then, suddenly, it was half an hour dry and I didn't want to give up my mission just yet. I left at 2 pm and again with destination Bondi beach. And you wouldn't guess so, but it started raining again, this time on the moment I got off the bus. But I ran down to the beach and asked the first person I saw to shoot me a pic, ha, maybe not swimming and on a sunny day like I dreamed, but I have been there. Look at the pic with this story for the proof.
As it might not surprise you, it started raining much harder again and I decided to have a very late lunch before heading back to the hostel. I read this leaflet about a Christmas celebration in the cathedral close to the hostel, and I liked to be there at 5 for this event. So I did, and one of the church ppl talked a bit to me and introduced me to a woman who told me I could sit with her and the family, so I wasn't alone there. Another proof of friendly ppl.
The celebration lasted an hour, and again I was in the rain with my santa hat. You have no idea how many ppl talk to me because of that hat. I have never said so many times merry christmas in my life before I think. :) One time, someone used the white ball on the top as a microfone and talked in it haha, strange ppl here. :P
My last stroll for the day was in the neighbourhood that already feels familiar to me. I walked through a park when I suddenly discovered another cathedral that was decorated by colored light. There would be a short projection show so I stayed and waited for it. It was amazing how they lit up the cathedral and used it to project their messages on it. :))
After this show I continued walking to the Opere House as I wanted a pic at night. I met there a guy named Yves, from Belgium, so we walked together for a while, as he was travelling alone too, after arriving today. It was a pleasant hour, he likes tennis too so there was a lot to talk, but I went back to my hostel, and he went to his place for the night. Ah yes, the mates you meet come and go here.
So now I am back here and I wonder why my feet hurt. I love walking around and just going after my nose, but it feels to me that I am a few inches smaller when I will be back home next month. Right now I don't know what to do tomorrow. I'd like to take the train to Blue Mountains and spend the day there, but on the other hand, it's a festive day here too tomorrow, Boxing day, with a boat race in the harbour. I don't know... I think I decide when I get up in the morning. Just to be safe I will check out the train times. I am in the mood to do something different.
We will see... that means, you will see the pics tomorrow, and see what I have done in the end. See ya tmrw!
