My apologies to everyone for not updating sooner. I've had a rough couple of weeks. With my dental issues and nasty colds and just a general inability to concentrate on anything, I didn't quite have the energy to log on. But now I'm back in action so here goes...
The weekend before Easter (31 March-1 April) Julie and Tim invited me to visit them in Oxford. It's always good to see them and have a chance to catch up. The weather was beautiful and we enjoyed a picnic lunch in the park on Saturday. Julie and I also had a lovely walk (although a bit windy) in Port Meadow. I love all the parks and green spaces in Oxford! Saturday evening the three of us stopped in a pub for a drink as a belated birthday celebration (Julie and I both have birthdays in March) before a delicious meal prepared by Tim. Sunday we had a relaxing day in and watched Little Miss Sunshine. Unfortunately none of us were 100% with Julie's cold, Tim's sore knee, and my mouth issues. Despite this, Julie and I had our moaning session, set some goals to reach by the time we turn 30 and enjoyed each other's company. Successful weekend!
Shortly after arriving back from this nice weekend, I began to feel even worse and spent the next couple days trying to fight off a nasty cold. I was afraid that if I arrived for my root canal with a fever, a cough and an inability to breathe the dentist would send me home! Luckily, I was feeling significantly better by Thursday although my gums were, by that point, very sore and infected.
And so I arrived for my root canal a little early on Thursday afternoon ready to be done with it all. Things immediately started to look up when the dentist called me back right away. Due to my former job, I have been to more dental appointments than the average person will in their entire lifetime. Never have I had a dentist be ready on time let alone early! I used to schedule the first appointment of the day for kids and still have to wait for 30, 40 minutes. So, a gold star for the prompt British dentist! The root canal wasn't too bad--the needle in my sore gum was the worst of the pain. Sitting in the chair with my mouth open for an hour wasn't the most pleasant of experiences, but I made it through. Whew.
When I woke up Friday morning, the pain was already starting to go away although my gums and top lip were still incredibly swollen. Oh yes, I was lookin' mighty fine! (And no, I didn't take any photos much to my brother's disappointment!) By Saturday I looked a bit more normal and ventured out of my flat to do some laundry and walk into town for some groceries and to enjoy the beautiful sunny weather. I also went to the Easter Vigil that night which helped put me into the holiday spirit.
Easter Sunday was a gorgeous, warm, sunny day! (Sorry to those of you who had a cold, snowy Easter in PA!) I had hot cross buns for breakfast, watched the rest of my daffodils burst into bloom, talked on the phone with my parents and all my siblings, stuffed my face with delicious chocolate eggs, and even took a blanket outside and read in the sun for a while. It was a nice day.
My mouth isn't quite back to normal, but it's definitely getting there. I feel almost like a new person! I had my first truely productive day of essay research today in nearly a month. This is quite good news since I have two big term essays due in April! So it looks like I will be able to finish them afterall. I was getting a bit worried there! The fact that campus is nearly deserted since most students left for the holiday and my flat is really quiet (there's only a few of us here right now) will definitely help my concentration. And the weather has been amazing! Sunny and in the 60's everyday with no rain! It's predicted to continue for the rest of the week--unbelievable! I love it! I will be going to Wales for a couple days this week and it looks like I will have great sightseeing weather. Other than that I will be reading and writing and being thankful that I'm feeling like myself again!
I hope you all had a nice Easter weekend and Spring will reach you soon if it hasn't already!
