Mandy's Adventures
Despite the fact that I feel like I have an unnatural amount of spare time, I have gotten quite a bit accomplished in the past couple days. Yesterday, on my way to the bus stop to head into Uxbridge, I bumped into my American flatmate and her dad who invited me to join them as they were on their way there in the car they rented. I was able to purchase quite a few of the items I needed but had been unable to pack. As an added bonus, one of the shopping plazas has a Poundland (think Dollar Tree) where all items are only a pound! Being the bargain shopper that I am, I was all about buying as many things on my list as possible there. We also stopped at a grocery store on the way back so I was able to pick up a few food items to stock my limited kitchen space. The day ended with a nice chat over dinner with two of my flatmates and a movie with one of those flatmates who is from Cyprus. Today I stuck around campus, attending the International Student Orientation and shopping at the Fresh Fruit and Veg market that will be on campus every Tuesday. I got some useful information about postgraduate studies at dinner from an international student who just completed her program at Brunel. She is staying with one of my flatmates for a bit and then will do a little traveling before she returns home to China. It has been so interesting just talking with people from so many different cultures. And it is strange having people ask me about my "accent" when, naturally, I think they are the ones with the accent!
Tomorrow I have my first meeting with my department, and I am looking forward to meeting the other students on my course (as the Brits would phrase it). I also complete the Enrolment process tomorrow and will officially be a registered Brunel student. Of course, none of that begins until 4:15 pm so I will have to find something to fill the rest of my day. Perhaps another trip into Uxbridge will be in order.
